20130210_204240_1So the first month has passed by in my ‘Book It’ resolution and things are going great so far. I read these two amazing books in January, along with a few fun magazines, and am stoked to read more! This month I will be reading some fun new design books and magazines I got recently and am excited to see what tidbits of design inspiration I can gain from them. This month my reading list includes:

  • The Freelancer’s Bible: Everything You Need To Know To Have The Career Of Your Dreams-On Your Terms by Sara Horowitz
  • Talent Is Not Enough: Business Secrets For Designers by Shel Perkins
  • Vintage Remix: The Interiors of Kishani Perera
  • Undecorate: The No Rules Approach To Interior Design

One word comes to mind after re-reading this list: AMBITIOUS! However, I know I can do it and it is great to have a challenge. To know I can continue to learn and grow as a designer, as a business owner and free-lancer is what will keep me powering through each and every one of these.

What have you been reading lately? Did you meet your previous reading goals? Are you going to start fresh this month? You can do it!!

20121228_213618_0Okay, fess up. We all do it. Make resolutions that never quite make it to April 1st, let alone December 31st. This year needs to be different. As I look ahead to 2013 I can’t help but be grateful for all that 2012 has blessed me with, both personally and professionally. It has definitely been a hard year but God has clearly opened doors and while I am not sure exactly where I am headed I know I am going towards something exciting. So with hopeful anticipation I have decided to make attainable resolutions that will benefit my design knowledge and work as well as my business as a whole. I figure it is harder to push those aside, right? It really is a win-win as each of these items helps me de-stress, clear my head, and sharpen my creative thought process.

So over the next week I will be sharing my 2013 design resolutions with you and hopefully you will make some solid ones of your own! so with that…drum roll please…

2013 Resolution #1 : Book-It!

Yup, time to bust out the books! While I can appreciate those fancy e-readers and ipads I find solace and comfort with a physical book in hand, whether or not I fall asleep with it laying on my face and lose the page I was on. There is just something magical and romantic about curling up with a good book, right?! So this year I have mapped out a monthly reading plan that I am excited about but more importantly is actually attainable.  I got the idea from my bro over at http://www.benfairfield.com, particularly his post on making a 2013 Reading Growth Plan. Such a great idea! (This guy seriously knows his stuff…even if he did make me smell his stinky feet as a kid!) My reading growth plan ranges from personal business to interior design, and architecture to photography. Gotta cover all angles! And if this weren’t enough I also have a reading growth plan for my food baby http://www.creativefueling.com. I am stoked! So much great information and so much relaxing quiet time…BRING IT!

I will be posting my reading plan at the beginning of each month so keep your eyes peeled for some great books and resources that may be of benefit to you as well.

Here is my January reading plan and I highly recommend you check out each of these yourself:

  • Knowing Your Value by Mika Brzezinski
  • Good To Great by Jim Collins
  • Click magazine
  • Residential Architect magazine
  • Elle Decor magazine

Do you have some books you are hoping to read in the coming year? Have you been putting them off? Is it time to create your own reading growth plan?

IMG_20121214_140613 (3)I know it has been forever since I have dropped a line. My apologies. Life has been redonculous and I am just now starting to get things to calm down a bit. What a blessing to be busy but dang I am sure missing sleep! Looking forward to a few days off at Christmas to catch up on my “doing nothing-ness”. However, until then I will be sharing some updates on here so be sure to check back. Some fun stuff is happening and I can’t wait to share some of the stuff I have been working on, including apparel design, interior design and photography. See, BUSY BUSY BUSY!

…until then I thought I would share the view I had from my desk today…I may have found my new favorite paper weight.

Cheers to a beautiful winter weekend!

2011 in review

2011 was a year of great growth and great change accompanied by great blessings every step of the way. WordPress puts together a fun year end wrap up and I thought this would be fun to share. I hope your Christmas an New Years were as enjoyable as my own and cheers to a wonderful 2012 to come!

Here’s an excerpt:

A New York City subway train holds 1,200 people. This blog was viewed about 5,200 times in 2011. If it were a NYC subway train, it would take about 4 trips to carry that many people.
