20130210_204240_1So the first month has passed by in my ‘Book It’ resolution and things are going great so far. I read these two amazing books in January, along with a few fun magazines, and am stoked to read more! This month I will be reading some fun new design books and magazines I got recently and am excited to see what tidbits of design inspiration I can gain from them. This month my reading list includes:

  • The Freelancer’s Bible: Everything You Need To Know To Have The Career Of Your Dreams-On Your Terms by Sara Horowitz
  • Talent Is Not Enough: Business Secrets For Designers by Shel Perkins
  • Vintage Remix: The Interiors of Kishani Perera
  • Undecorate: The No Rules Approach To Interior Design

One word comes to mind after re-reading this list: AMBITIOUS! However, I know I can do it and it is great to have a challenge. To know I can continue to learn and grow as a designer, as a business owner and free-lancer is what will keep me powering through each and every one of these.

What have you been reading lately? Did you meet your previous reading goals? Are you going to start fresh this month? You can do it!!

So here they are. Pictures I grabbed on our “lunch break” while on site yesterday as we watched five guys and some chain effortlessly hoist a 1500lb fireplace mantel rock into place. Stinking amazing and it was definitely a rare opportunity to watch. I am so thankful I had my camera and was able to capture these moments!

There is something about a construction site that fascinates me. The materialization of a design, of a vision and of a family’s future home where they will make amazing memories. And I have to say that yesterdays visit had the added bonus of being able to watch five guys work seamlessly together to hoist a 1500lb stone mantel into place…yeah…that was my lunch break! Excited for the next visit out and I’ll definitely have my camera then as well! Until then I will be posting the pics of the fireplace stone lifting fun tomorrow so stay tuned!

A great evening, that’s what! I am not only a board member for the CdA Tri Team but I am also their custom graphics and design sponsor so I was able to have a little fun and decorate our space for the big event. Proof you don’t need a big budget to have a fun party…only some elbow grease and a little imagination! The party was a resounding success and there is already talk of making 2013’s bigger and more swanky :0)

So this begins my entrance into official event design and i couldn’t be more thrilled. I have loved the idea of designing and planning parties, weddings and various other events for years and it seems I am now officially starting.

Bring it 2013! Who wants to party?!?

Cheers!

It never ceases to amaze me how sometimes you can capture an image that tells a story all on its own. No additional words needed. No explanation. Just the power of what you see before you. This is one such picture that I captured last night in  my dad’s hospital room. Powerful time. Powerful image.

Here are some shots I took when my brother brought my nephew to see our dad. Dad was hurting and tired but it is amazing how a visit from his first grandson and namesake can bring instantaneous joy into the room, smiles to everyone’s faces, and talk of many Disney movies :0) In 20 years these will not be our favorite memories to look back on but we will be so fortunate to have them and remember the love our family shares not matter what life brings. These pictures help illustrate that.

Go, team Fairfield!
